Shocking Friday: 3 Movies – First Show – 33 audiences

Asian Celebrity March 10th, 2010

This is shocking and really puts us in an extreme shock for it hasn’t happened before. Friday – March 5 has become the most speculative day for Kollywood as all the released turned to be the most disappointing Friday. This isn’t a buzz, but a real fact that was witnessed some of theatres in Tamil Nadu.
Just as the title says – the first day first shows of three movies – Aval Peyar Tamizharasi, Veerasekeran and Bharath’s ‘Thambikku Indha Ooru’ had just 43 audiences in one of the prominent theatres of Tamil Nadu.
Aval Peyar Tamizharasi – 23 audiences and they had just come to theatres for the bannername of ‘Moser Baer’ as it ensures some quality movies.
Thambikku Indha Ooru – 12 audiences at a theatre and they were highly disappointed…
But the most pitiable of all is ‘Veerasekeran’ that had just 7 persons buying tickets and the show was cancelled.
This is a direct report from one of the leadingdistributors-and-trade analysts of Tamil Nadu Box Office.

Ajith Gets One More Support

Asian Celebrity February 24th, 2010

Once Ajith pioneered with his open speech about actors being threatened to attend the political and social events, the other celebrities of Kollywood have started following the same traits. Recently, actor Jai had openly commented that Ajith Kumar’s statement was perfect since it was based on reality grounds.Indeed Jai strongly mentioned that he himself was threatened by producer council member to take part in CM Felicitation ceremony…Says Jai: ‘I had a terrifying Ligament tear while shooting for a song sequence and doctor had advised me to take bed rest for next 10 days. But on the previous night of CM Felicitation function, I received a call from Tamil film producers’ council insisting me to take part in rehearsal at morning 10. Although, I humbly explained about my situation, they were just clear at their point about getting me to rehearsals. It would be quite obvious with the way I danced for a song during function. Since, I couldn’t shake my legs properly; I hardly made some movements over the stage and walked away... I am really glad that Ajith sir openly stated it or else discussing such issues in Producers Council would yield no better results.’

Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa Movie Preview

Asian Celebrity February 23rd, 2010

Starring: Silambarasan, Trisha.
Direction: Gautham Menon
Music: AR Rahman
Production: Escape Artists Motion Pictures And R.S. Infotainment
‘A unique love story between Trisha as Jesse and Silambarasan as Karthik’ is what Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa (VTV) is all about - love. Releasing this weekend, VTV is what would have been a perfect Valentines Day release for Kollywood. But, here we are, two weeks after Valentine Day, ready to receive the first all-out romantic release of 2010. After the cute and lovable debut that he made with Minnale, a film that is still popular for the wonderful way in which it depicted romance, Gautham Menon moved on to more serious and action-packed stuff. Kakka Kakka and Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu whetted his appetite for cop subjects (of course, there are now talks about the Gautham-Ajith combination which might once again be a cop story) while he surprised us with an unusual attempt in Pachchaikili Muthucharam. Late in 2008, he showed signs of going back to the more mellow stuff with Vaaranum Aayiram. Now, looks like Gautham Menon has come full circle (may be too early in his career to say such a thing) and is back to love, romance and all the sweet things in life.

Love stories are predictable. Boy meets girl, a little bit of wooing, rejection and then acceptance, a few songs, the hero going down on one knee to propose and they lived happily ever after… But, the magic of love stories is that despite their predictability, they can still keep you hooked and charmed. The only requisite is that the lead pair must look like a couple worth envying on screen. In VTV, we have a rather under-explored combination in Tamil cinema - Silambarasan and Trisha. Yes, they have worked together before in Alai, but that was hardly the sweet romantic tale that can firmly establish the worth of a pair. VTV will be that litmus test for this young pair to prove that they can really create magic together on screen. And, they are being helmed by a man who is known for handling romances in a very endearing way, even in his action films. It had been pointed out some time back by a visitor to the site that Gautham Menon has a unique way of showing his heroines in a different light, as beautiful rather than glamorous. Looks like Gautham is set to do the same with Trisha too. Even in the trailers, Silambarasan’s voice describes Jesse as a classy, educated, well-read and stylish woman. So, Trisha’s fans can expect a new look and feel to their favorite heroine. But, it is not just Trisha, who is in for a makeover; Silambarasan looks a wholly different and new person as Karthik, the assistant director who is out to woo the girl of his dreams. The locations look rich and exotic, the kind of visual treat you would expect in an as sweet as it can get romance, Manoj Paramahamsa (DOP) is the man behind what you see on screen. And finally getting to the most talked about aspect of VTV - the music of A.R. Rahman. There is no need to say a lot about the reach or impact that ‘Hosanna’ has had in just a few weeks. It is pure magic, something unique to Rahman and something that will serve as one of the biggest strengths of VTV, especially with the way Gautham is known to picturize his songs. It is Gautham and Rahman together for the first time, and as much as we hope for Gautham and Harris to reunite, the combination that has been unearthed in VTV is definitely worth savoring. With the season of love still lingering on, with some liltingly romantic tunes and potentially sparkling pair on screen, VTV has all the elements that can make the youth melt. Let’s wait and watch. And, we have heard that Gautham is ready with alternative climaxes which may be used depending upon the audiences’ reactions. All the best!
